Law: Not for Me

Wow, it amazes me how I can read a passage a 100 times and receive little information from it and then out of the blue God will reveal some deep helpful information... I was reading 1 Timothy 1 and God revealed some helpful knowledge to me. Read the passage, I prefer the KJV for this passage but I have included the NIV. I probably should have included more scriptures...

1 Timothy 1:5-11 (NIV BibleGateway.com)
5The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. 7They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.

8We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

I guess you want to know whats the big deal... God tells us that the Law was never meant for us but for those who are unlawful. Why is this? The Law governs those who break it. It lets the unlawful know that they are being unlawful and teaches what is wrong. It also instructs on how to reach atonement. What does the Law say to the lawful? They are not unlawful, lol.

God does not leave us, who want to live righteously, with no hope. Paul tells us that his goal is to teach good doctrine that will show us how to live our lives in a godly manner. No longer will we settle for not breaking the Law but we can focus on how to please God and live a life that worships Him. If we study Jesus' life, he doesnt focus on what he cannot do but he focuses on what God has called him to do! So let's start reading the Bible more to find out what God is calling us to do, like being people of love and fishers of men!!!

Hope this blesses you,

KC
